How much will my score go up?

The good news is that much of your success is in your hands. The more time you devote to the course and the more you practice, the better you’ll get and the higher your score.

How long will it take?

That said, most students take 4-8 weeks on the math, 2-4 weeks on the language/writing, 2-4 weeks on the reading comp and a couple of weeks taking a few practice tests.

I’ve heard a lot about colleges going “test optional.” What does that mean and does my son or daughter even need to take the ACT or SAT?

That’s a great question. And a very confusing one. Generally speaking, a great test score will only strengthen a student’s application and generally increase his or her chances of being accepted. It’s really one more way. to show the admissions department that your son or daughter is academically qualified to excel in his or her dream school.

However, if your son or daughter has excellent academic credentials (GPA, class rank, rigorous college prep courses, ap scores, etc.) that are well above the requirements of their target school, then it might not be necessary or even to their advantage to take the ACT or SAT. It might be a better use of time and energy to focus on the application itself in order to maximize their chances of being accepted.

Most importantly, when you’re making that decision, DEFINITELY CONFIRM that the schools your son or daughter are targeting are, in fact, test optional. It’s also a good idea to talk with the admissions department of your child’s target schools. The landscape around ‘test optional’ is changing quickly and there are nearly 4,000 four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. They are all making their own rules.
